Michael Hoxie

I was born and raised in Hawaii, went to California College and stayed for ten years, then moved up to the Pacific Northwest in the late 90s. In 2009, I learned the game of Pickleball from many of the legendary players here in the northwest. The last five years I have managed pickleball tournaments full-time with my company, Pickleball is Great. I work both Indoor and Outdoor tournaments, and have set up what feels like thousands of temporary courts and nets over the years; I always look forward to events with permanent courts.

The growth of Pickleball is Great has been a steady process as we build a team focused on the player experience. We manage all types of licensed/sanctioned/independent tournaments all throughout the country, from coast to coast. While we started in the Pacific Northwest, Pickleball is Great is very mobile and travels frequently to share the fun and joy of the sport we love. In 2021 alone we have been to more than a dozen states, from Coast to Coast, and we will be On Maui to Kick off  2022. We love our loyal Pickleball Is Great players, yet we are willing to go far and wide to share the excitement of this growing sport.

On a personal note, I have one son who started his first year of college here in the Portland area. I clearly love traveling for work, exploring new states and cities every chance I can take, and being sure to visit their local Hawaiian dining options. I worked in retail management for more than 30 years, and now I love working for myself, owning and operating Pickleball is Great. Doing a job that envelopes my passion is a dream come true. My employees and I collaborate and create tournaments with clubs, cities or individuals to bring a superior player experience.
